Lazarilla III

One of our beautiful black mares, Lazarilla III, has a very special story. We had admired her many years before we finally managed to purchase her. When we first saw her advertised, we were eager to bring her home, but unfortunately, someone else bought her first. A few years later, fate brought her back into our lives, a lovely lady in the UK imported her from a truly horrible situation. We are so grateful that we could give her the safe and loving home she truly deserves.

Because of her past, Lazarilla has struggled with trust and connection since arriving. We have worked tirelessly to make sure she feels comfortable and happy, and our patience has paid off—she has blossomed into a sweet and loving mare. She still has moments where fear takes over, but we do everything we can to help her feel secure. She especially struggles with people touching her face, particularly around her nose, but by learning to greet her differently and respecting her boundaries, we’ve built a relationship based on trust.

Despite her history, Lazarilla has grown into our top mare—the head of the herd. Calm yet commanding, she is able to stand peacefully on her own but also has the power to move the entire herd. If Lazarilla goes to the water trough, the others follow. She truly is the one in charge.
Lazarilla needed time to heal before she was ready to have a foal, and as always, it was her choice whether to accept a stallion. Her first covering was with our homebred stallion, Alejandro VII. She carried to term, but sadly a second foal was undetected in the ultrasound, and both were lost. They were lovingly named Pound and Pumpkin—beautiful foals who will always be remembered.

After some time to recover, she re-joined the herd but remained shy around stallions. We waited until she was ready and then introduced her to KIKO, our most gentle and respectful stallion. The connection between them was instant. Today, she adores the moments when Kiko runs with the herd, as it gives her the chance to spend special time with him—a bond that is wonderful to see.
